The International Medical University (IMU) has recognized that there are many Malaysian students who aspire to be a health sciences professional. For various reasons, some of these students are not able to achieve their life-long ambition, including those students whose families do not have the financial resources to support them for entry into an international institution like the IMU.

In view of this, the IMU has established a number of scholarships to be awarded to:

1. Two (2) students to pursue the undergraduate medical course in Malaysia leading to the MBBS (IMU).
2. Two (2) students to pursue the entire eight (8) semesters of the twinned undergraduate pharmacy course leading to the MPharm (Hons) degree (in collaboration with the University of Strathclyde).
3. One (1) student to pursue the Bachelor of Pharmacy programme to be conducted wholly in IMU, leading to the BPharm (Hons).
4. Two (2) students to pursue the Bachelor of Nursing degree leading to the BNursing (Hons).

Students who wish to apply must have excellent academic background together with other qualities, including strong extra-curricula activities and who, for financial reasons, would otherwise be unable to pursue a career in medicine, pharmacy or nursing.

These prestigious scholarships are established to reflect the IMU’s contribution to society. It also is an integral part of the University’s staff development scheme to groom young individuals with high potential to be part of the future IMU faculty for training of medical, pharmacy and allied health professionals. This is in line with our nations strive towards excellence in education and health care in the 21st century.

SPM
Minimum 4B in Bahasa Melayu. Total aggregate of six best subjects (inclusive of Bahasa Melayu and English) must be not more than 15. Credits in English and Mathematics are prerequisites.

Asian Development Bank - Japan Scholarship Program

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) - Japan Scholarship Program (JSP) was
established in April 1988 with financing from the Government of Japan.

It aims to provide an opportunity for well-qualified citizens of ADB's developing member countries to pursue postgraduate studies in economics, management, science and technology, and other development-related fields at participating academic institutions in the Asian and Pacific Region.

Upon completion of their study programs, scholars are expected to contribute to the economic and social development of their home countries.

The ADB-JSP enrolls about 300 students annually in 20 academic institutions located in 10 countries within the Region.

The Faculty of Biological Sciences at the University of Leeds is one of the largest groups of life-science researchers within the UK, and offers superb facilities and a high quality research training environment for all areas including agriculture, animal and plant sciences, biochemistry and molecular biology, bioinformatics, ecology and evolution, genetics, immunology, microbiology, neurosciences, pharmacology and physiology, and structural molecular biology.

The Faculty of Biological Sciences offers a number of scholarships for students who are both resident and currently being educated in Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia or Brunei (Nationals of Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia or Brunei paying full overseas fees but resident outside of their home country may apply for the Faculty of Biological Sciences International Scholarships Scheme). • Commence a programme of study in the Faculty of Biological Sciences in September 2008 and be fully registered on 1st December 2008.
• Be a full-time student paying full overseas rated fees.
• Be in receipt of a written scholarship offer from the Faculty and fulfil the academic conditions of that offer.
• Be a national of Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia or Brunei and be resident and educated in that country immediately prior to joining the Faculty of Biological Sciences at the University of Leeds.

Scholarships will be allocated subject to the full terms of the schemes. Students may only be awarded one Faculty of Biological Sciences Scholarship. Faculty of Biological Sciences International Scholarships are not available to students who have other University of Leeds scholarships or bursaries or who have secured alternative external sources of funding e.g. government sponsorship. The award of research grants to applicants from Malaysia is subject to an age limit of 32. In the case of doctorates to be gained under the DAAD Sandwich Model, exceptions up to an age limit of 36 are possible

The Malaysian-American Commission on Educational Exchange (MACEE) is pleased to announce its annual competition for grants under the Fulbright Scholarship for graduate level study (Masters or Ph.D. degrees) and research in the United States for the 2008-2009 academic year.

Grants under the Malaysian Fulbright student scholarship will be administered as either degreeor non-degree grants (Dissertation Research), depending on whether the applicant is seeking to complete coursework or research toward his/her degree program at a Malaysian university or is seeking to obtain a degree from an American institution.

Fulbright Malaysian Graduate Study and Research Scholarship are for periods of one academic year. Degree-track grants may be renewed for a second year.

Please note that grant renewals are recommended for approval by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarships Board on a case-by-case basis and are not automatically renewable.

Scholarship Value
Fulbright Malaysian Graduate Study and Research Scholarship will be partial grants or otherwise require cost-sharing from the candidate's home institution, scholarships or other funding from the admitting university or from personal resources. While awards may be full grants, the category and amount of any specific award will be based upon available funding and other criteria as determined by the Academic committee during the selection process.

All decisions regarding category and amount of grant shall be final. Similarly, the amount of renewal funding shall be contingent upon financial circumstances affecting the Commission.
For graduate degree grants, efforts will be made to retain funding levels from the first to the second year. However, students should not assume this will take place.

The Wesleyan Freeman Asian Scholars Program

The Wesleyan Freeman Asian Scholarship Program provides expenses for a four-year course of study toward a bachelor’s degree for up to twenty-two exceptionally able Asian students annually from these countries and regions: the People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Applications must be postmarked by January 1, 2008.
Students are advised to register now for SAT and TOEFL or IELTS.
Notification by April 1, 2008.
Japan notification by March 1, 2008.

Wesleyan is now accepting applications for participation in the Wesleyan Freeman Asian Scholarship Program. The chosen applicants will join 2,800 other Wesleyan undergraduates from throughout the United States and nearly 50 countries for study with an outstanding teaching and research faculty in the sciences and mathematics, the arts, the humanities, and the social and behavioral sciences.

This program is made possible by Wesleyan University and the Freeman Foundation, which aims to improve understanding and to strengthen ties between the United States and the countries and regions of the Pacific Rim.

Wesleyan University is located in Middletown, Connecticut, halfway between New York and Boston in the historic and colorful New England region of the northeastern United States. It is a private, nonsectarian, liberal arts and sciences institution founded in 1831. A number of early Wesleyan graduates were influential educators and ministers in Asian countries, and the modern Wesleyan has formal ties to several prominent universities in Asia. The campus is home to a diverse population of 2,800 undergraduate students, equally divided between men and women, approximately 28 percent of whom are of African, Asian, or Hispanic descent, and nearly 190 students from foreign countries.

Approximately 200 graduate students, a number of whom are from Asian countries, are pursuing advanced degrees, principally in the sciences, mathematics, and music.

Wesleyan provides instruction in 46 major fields of study. Unlike some university systems abroad, in which students focus on one academic field, most American universities are based on a curricular tradition of liberal arts and sciences, in which breadth and depth of study are deemed equally important. At Wesleyan, the major programs of study involve one-third to one-half of a student’s course work, with the remaining time devoted to exploration of a variety of fields through which a student may broaden his or her background and understanding. More than 900 courses are offered, in which interdisciplinary pursuits are encouraged and an international perspective is fundamental.

Wesleyan graduates go on in high numbers to the best graduate and professional schools in the United States and to successful careers in engineering, business, law, medicine, education, politics, international relations, social service, and the arts. The primary purpose of study at Wesleyan, however, is not to provide vocational training in a specific area. The objectives of a Wesleyan education include the development of self-educating men and women who have mastered a major field, have learned to think critically, are cognizant of the variety of human experience, and have acquired the habits of imaginative and disciplined minds.

The liberal arts at Wesleyan are founded on an atmosphere of freedom, small college traditions, faculty resources, and student diversity. The University provides the facilities and opportunities of a research university while retaining the emphasis on teaching and the intimacy of a small college. The undergraduate student-to-faculty ratio is 9:1, enabling the faculty to provide direct and particular attention to undergraduate education. Wesleyan’s more than 300 teacher-scholars believe that scholarly research and active teaching are mutually reinforcing. The University’s curriculum is unusually flexible, and students work closely with a faculty advisor in planning all programs and majors.

STUDENT LIFE
Many undergraduates cite the University’s relatively small size as a source of satisfaction with campus life. The community is small enough so that the individual may feel at home, yet large enough to provide a rich variety of activities and acquaintances.

Life can be very full for undergraduates. Outside the classroom, they may select from more than 200 different student organizations that range in interest from theatrical productions to environmental activism, from the Wesleyan Argus newspaper and the debate club to Ultimate Frisbee, from the Asians for Community Empowerment to West African drumming or a chamber music group. The University’s state-of-the-art athletic center encourages students to participate in athletics, either in one of 27 varsity sports or at the intramural level. Parties and social gatherings are held at student residences, at the campus center, at fraternity houses, and at restaurants in Middletown. Bringing the wider world closer, prominent scholars, artists, musicians, actors, and dancers come to the campus regularly, and the weekly campus calendar features a continuous program of concerts, plays, films, and lectures.

RESIDENTIAL LIFE
All Wesleyan students are guaranteed housing on campus for the full four years. They may choose among several options for housing and dining, and more than 90 percent of them live on or within one block of the campus. First-year students generally live in one of several residence hall complexes in either a double or single room. After the first year, Wesleyan offers a variety of housing options, including apartment complexes, furnished houses, and small rental houses. Membership in the dining plan is required for all four years, which allows students to eat in the many on-campus facilities as well as to buy food at the campus grocery store and cook their own meals. The Usdan University Center (http://www.wesleyan.edu/masterplan/univcenter.html), just opened in August 2007, provides a central location for dining and social activities.

THE FREEMAN FOUNDATION
The first Wesleyan Freeman Asian Scholars enrolled at Wesleyan in September of 1995. The Freeman Foundation, sponsor of the Wesleyan Freeman Asian Scholarship Program, was established in 1994 through the bequest of Mansfield Freeman, a businessman, benefactor, scholar, and longtime resident in Asia who was a member of the Wesleyan University Class of 1916. Mr. Freeman was an insurance executive and one of the original founders of what is now the American International Group, Inc. (AIG). The New York–based Freeman Foundation, which established the Wesleyan Freeman Asian Scholarship Program in memory of Mansfield Freeman, is administered primarily by the Freeman family; its charitable efforts are directed mainly toward bettering relationships and understanding between the United States and the countries of East Asia. This program’s goal is for Freeman Asian Scholars to become leaders in their home countries.

SCHOLARSHIP FINANCIAL AWARDS
Scholars Each Freeman Scholar will receive a scholarship to cover the cost of tuition and student fees (called “full tuition scholarship”) regardless of his or her family’s financial situation. Although costs are not yet established for 2008-2009, in the 2007-2008 school year tuition and fees total $36,806. Families wishing to apply for financial aid to assist with the costs associated with room, board, travel, books, and supplies and the one time matriculation free submit a completed International Financial Aid Application by February 15. Wesleyan’s Financial Aid Office will determine the family contribution. The family contribution is comprised of a parent contribution based on the parent(s) income and assets, as well as a student contribution.

A scholarship applicant who is not requesting financial aid to cover the costs beyond tuition will need to provide documentation that his or her family has the financial resources to pay those costs by submitting the Certification of Finances Form. The form must show that the family can fund approximately $14,000 per academic year. (Again, the cost of attendance is not yet set for the 2008-2009 academic year, but the additional budget for new matriculants in the 2007-2008 academic year is $12, 840 not including travel; residential comprehensive fee $10, 130; books and miscellaneous $2,410; one time matriculation fee $300).

FREEMAN SCHOLARS
Applicants for the academic year beginning in late August must have completed their secondary schooling* (high school) by then and must be citizens or permanent residents of one of these eleven countries or regions: China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, or Vietnam. Preference will be given to those currently living in one of these eleven countries or regions and to those who would otherwise be unable to study in the United States. Individuals with dual U.S. citizenship or who are permanent U.S. residents are not eligible. Students who must fulfill a military service requirement may apply in their final year of school but waiting until the year in which one can enroll is preferable.

Students following the British O- and A-level system typically will be enrolled in their second year of the A-level program at the time of application. We cannot consider students from Malaysia on the basis of forecast SPM results; students there should be enrolled in the second year of the STPM at the time of application. Students already enrolled in university are not eligible for Wesleyan Freeman Asian Scholarships. In South Korea, a student may accept a place in a Korean university for February 2008, pending our scholarship decision.

Admission to Wesleyan and the selection process for Wesleyan Freeman Asian Scholars is extremely competitive. We plan to award the scholarship to two students from each of the eleven countries or regions. Selection criteria include academic achievement; intellectual curiosity; a high level of discipline and commitment; strong personal qualities; extracurricular involvement, especially community service; and English language ability.

It is our preference to enroll students currently studying and residing in their home countries, but students who are temporarily living elsewhere may apply. Please note that interviews of finalists take place in students’ home countries or regions.

Freeman Asian Scholars are expected to return to their home countries upon completion of their degrees. (We understand that some students may wish to continue their education with graduate studies in the United States, which would be at their own expense.)

Successful applicants will be notified by April 1, except in Japan, where they will be notified by March 1. Alternates also will be chosen in the event that any of those initially selected decide not to accept the offer. Wesleyan will provide the necessary forms for obtaining an F-1 student visa to the United States.

REQUIRED TESTING
To qualify, applicants must take the SAT Reasoning Test of the College Board. (Applicants in the People’s Republic of China, where the SAT is not available, are exempt from this requirement.) Non-native speakers of English also must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) in place of the TOEFL. Students should receive a score that demonstrates sufficient proficiency in the English language to function well in a highly demanding academic environment. A score close to 600 on the paper-based TOEFL or 250 on the computer-based TOEFL, or a “7” on the IELTS, would be evidence of adequate English language ability. (A high score – 650 or better – on the critical reading section of the SAT may also demonstrate the necessary English language proficiency. In such cases, submitting the TOEFL or IELTS results is not necessary.) These examinations must be taken by January 1. All examinations are administered on several dates, with a registration deadline approximately six weeks before the exam. Please be sure to list Wesleyan University (undergraduate) as an official score recipient.

If you encounter difficulty registering for the SAT or TOEFL, the U.S. Education Advising Center (USAEducation) listed for your country (below) should be able to assist you. To register for the IELTS, please access their Web site: www.ielts.org. You should take the academic reading and writing modules. IELTS is jointly managed by University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL), British Council, and IDP Education Australia: IELTS Australia.

APPLICATION
Interested students also must submit a written application that includes background information, two essays, a secondary (high) school/junior college transcript, recommendations from two teachers and one counselor, a peer reference, and results (or predictions if available) of any standardized national examinations administered during the secondary school/junior college years. Officials from Wesleyan and the Freeman Foundation will travel to Asia and conduct interviews of finalists in their home countries in February or March. All application materials are to be postmarked no later than January 1. (For students in the Philippines, we recommend mailing your application earlier or using a courier service.)

The application for the Freeman Asian Scholarship is different from the Common Application and it is not available on-line. You should not submit the Common Application as well.

It is likely that some highly qualified applicants who would otherwise be admissible to Wesleyan will not be chosen for the highly selective Freeman Asian Scholarship. No financial aid is available to such students, but those who do not require financial assistance to attend are encouraged to apply as “regular” applicants to Wesleyan University. To be considered as a “regular” (non-aided) admission candidate in the event that you are not selected as a Freeman Scholar, please indicate your interest in the place provided on the Freeman Scholarship application. The “Common Application” is not required, but the application fee of $55 is needed. (There is no application fee for students applying only for the Freeman Asian Scholarship.) Dual Freeman Asian Scholarship/”Regular” admission candidates must submit a Certification of Finances form documenting that the family has sufficient resources to fund the entire cost of education, approximately $50,000 each year.

Funding and Administration

The Asian Scholarship Foundation (ASF) is funded by a grant from theFord Foundation. Its office in Bangkok administers the ASIA FellowsAwards in the region with assistance from partner offices in Beijing,New Delhi, Manila, Hanoi, and Jakarta.

The ASF Board Management Committee is composed of twelve educationaland public leaders from the People's Republic of China, South andSoutheast Asia, and Australia. The Board Management Committee selectsthe fellows, oversees the program and makes policy decisions.

Goals and Objectives

The principal goal of the ASIA Fellows Awards is to increase theoverall awareness of intellectual resources in the countries ofNortheast, South and Southeast Asia and to contribute to the growth oflong-range capabilities for cross-regional knowledge sharing. The ASIAFellows Awards seek to develop regional expertise, establish amultilateral network of Asian specialists from many disciplines,professional fields and countries, stimulate interdisciplinary researchand inter-societal comparison, and contribute to new developments within existing area studies communities. The awards offer opportunitiesfor outstanding young and mid-career Asian scholars, and professionalsto gain knowledge of the countries in the region and an understandingof the contexts that shape global and regional issues through research.They enable the awardees to conduct research in a participating Asiancountry for six to nine months.

Eligibility

1. Citizens of and residents in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei,Cambodia, the People's Republic of China, Hong Kong, India,Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, the Republic of Maldives, Myanmar,Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
2. Master's/Doctoral degree or equivalent professional trainingand experiences (minimum of 3 years of university teaching experiencesfor scholars or 5 years of work experience for professionals.)
3. Applicants must be 45 years old or younger at the time of theapplication deadline. However, those up to 50 years old proposing to do research in the field of Humanities may be given special consideration.
4. Proficiency in English or in the language of the host countryappropriate to the proposed research project.
5. Those who are currently enrolled in a degree program, or havejust completed a degree program for less than one to two years will notbe eligible to apply. Those who were a recipient of a Ford Foundationfellowship grant within the last two years prior to the application isalso ineligible.

Conditions of the awards

1. The proposed research projects for the ASIA Fellows Awards canbe carried out in only one participating country (except the applicant's own) and under the following conditions:

* No applicant can propose to conduct their research in Hong Kong,Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan.

* Applicants from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Singapore cannot undertake research in each other's countries.

* Applicants from Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan can onlyapply to conduct their research in Thailand, the host country of ASF.

1. Any part of the proposed project that will be done in the applicant's own country will not be funded under the ASIA Fellows Awards.
2. The proposed grant period must be between 6-9 months. Onceawarded, a fellow is required to conduct research at the proposed host country throughout the grant period. Splitting of the grant period orconducting research in the applicant's own country during theproposed grant period is not allowed under any circumstances.
3. While an applicant from South or Southeast Asia may propose aresearch project in a country within his/her own region, preference isgiven to applicants who propose to conduct research in a region of Asiaother than their own (e.g., an award to an Indian scholar orprofessional for research in China).
4. Applicants should not plan to conduct their research in a countrywith which their home country has a difficult diplomatic relationship because of the uncertainties of securing an affiliation and obtaining aresearch clearance and visa for a long-term stay.
5. Fellowship awards are not for the purpose of completing requirements towards an academic degree (master's thesis or doctoraldissertations).

Fellowship Activities

ASIA Fellows awardees are placed at top-ranking research universitiesand non-academic institutions such as museums, archives or think tanks.Fellows should identify preferred placements in host countries. Theymay engage in an organized field research in the host country. Fellowsare strongly encouraged to undertake some language training in theirhost country as part of facilitating their research. They are alsoprovided the opportunities to present guest lectures, or to conduct seminars and workshops at the invitation of the host institutions. After completion of their fellowship, fellows can apply forpost-fellowship awards of three months to further their research in acountry within Asia, or for short-term travel awards to makepresentations at overseas conferences and meetings. All fellows are required to attend the Orientation Program in July 2008, and the ASIA Fellows' Annual Conference in July 2010 at which they present theirresearch results to fellow awardees and to scholars from the country inwhich the conference is held. They are also required to start theaward by the end of December 2008. At the end of the fellowship,fellows must submit to the ASF office in Bangkok evidence of the resultsof their research project in the form of publications, photos ofartistic works, audio/ video productions, etc.

National University of Singapore Research

The Asia Research Institute of NUS invites applications from ASEAN citizens enrolled for a fulltime advanced degree at a university in an ASEAN country (except Singapore) for consideration as ASEAN Research Scholars.
The aim of the fellowship is to enable scholars to make full use of the wide range of resources held in the libraries of NUS and the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies.

ASEAN Research Scholars 2008 are offered to current graduate students working in the Humanities and Social Sciences on Southeast Asian topics, and will allow the recipients to be based at NUS for an ‘in residence fellowship’ for a period of three months.

ASEAN Research Scholars 2008 will be expected to commence on 1 May 2008, and to make a presentation on their work at the Singapore Graduate Forum on Southeast Asian Studies at the end of July 2008.

Successful candidates can expect the following benefits:
• A monthly allowance of SGD$1,750 (inclusive of housing allowance).
• A one time round trip travel subsidy by the most economical and direct route on a reimbursement basis upon being accepted for the fellowship.
• Access to library and computer resources on campus.

The 2-page outline of the research proposal must include the following details:
• Whether the data collection or fieldwork stage of the research has already been completed;
• how the fellowship will contribute to the research;
• the types of sources to be consulted in Singapore;
• proposed work plan during the fellowship.

The PhD scholarship is to be taken up jointly with the appropriate discipline-based department. This would normally be with a department of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, but where appropriate could also be with the Faculty of Law, School of Business or School of Design & Environment at the National University of Singapore.

The following interdisciplinary areas or “clusters” are offering scholarships:
1) The Migration Cluster (Research Leader: Professor Brenda Yeoh) explores the issues arising from increased levels of human mobility in the region, both within and across national borders. Mobility of high-level professional and managerial personnel, labour migration, both documented and undocumented, and human trafficking all raise theoretical and methodological questions and major policy issues, as does the role of migration in urban change.

2) The Religion and Globalisation Cluster (Research Leader: Professor Bryan Turner) explores the changing patterns of religious practice, belief and identity in recent times, particularly in Southeast Asia, China and South Asia. The title implies a particular interest in transnational and diasporic interactions, the engagement with modern technologies and values, and new global or ‘glocal’ forms of identity.

3) The Cultural Studies Cluster (Research Leader: Professor Chua Beng Huat) consciously challenges disciplinary boundaries to address new topics, issues and concerns thrown up by the rapid globalization of contemporary cultures. ARI is interested in new understandings of the everyday life cultural practices of contemporary Asia, as in adaptations of older patterns in literature, and the performing and graphic arts, in rapidly changing contemporary conditions.

4) The Southeast Asia-China Interactions Cluster (Research Leader: Professor Anthony Reid) will welcome students in two project areas: The Cold War in Asia, relating particularly to relations between the two Chinas (CCP and KMT) and the parties, movements and governments of Southeast Asia; and issues of heritage recovery and archaeology in Aceh and Sumatra more generally.

ARI is a university-level institute formed in July 2001 as one of the strategic initiatives of the NUS. The mission of the Institute is to produce and promote world-class research on Asia. ARI engages the social sciences and humanities broadly defined, and encourages especially multidisciplinary studies. Now home to six research clusters with a strong team of resident and visiting scholars, ARI works closely with the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, School of Business, Faculty of Law, and School of Design and Environment in NUS.

Asian development Bank-Japan Scholarship Program

Qualified citizens of developing member countries of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), who intend to persue postgraduate studies in economics, management, science and technology, and other development-related fields are invented to apply for scholarships under the Asian Development Bank-Japan Scholarship Program. Upon successful completion of the graduate program, the scholars are expected to return to their countries and contribute to its socioeconomic development. Scholar-ships are awarded for graduate studies at designated institutions in courses of study approved by ADB. The Program especially welcomes qualified women applicants who have limited financial means to obtain university education.

Eligibility Requirements
Prospective applicants must:

Applicants should obtain application forms from the designated institutions of their choice and submit the completed form and required documentation to the Institution. AMINEF is pleased to announce the availability of Fulbright scholarships to study in the United States for the 2009 – 2010 academic year.
The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State is pleased to announce the Community College Summit Initiative Program.

The Community College Summit Initiative Program will provide funding for round-trip airfare to the U.S.; a living allowance during English language, academic, and practical training program components; tuition costs; a health benefit plan; and cultural enhancement activities. Students will be hosted in groups by community colleges competitively selected to participate in the program. Programs may be one or two years in duration and may result in either a certificate or an Associate Degree. Students are required to return home at the end of their program and may not transfer to a four-year U.S. academic institution.

Eligible fields:
1. Agriculture
2. Applied Engineering
3. Business Management and Administration; Health Professions, including Nursing; Information Technology; Media; and Tourism and Hospitality Management.

To apply to the program, candidates must:
• Have completed a secondary school education;
• Have relevant work experience in the field in which they are applying;
• Have English language skills that provide a basis for enrolling in academic coursework following approximately 8 weeks of intensive English language study in the U.S.; and
• Submit a complete application (original one and two copies).
• Have an Institutional or Prediction TOEFL score of 500 or equivalent.

Applicants with Bachelor’s degrees are only eligible if they are applying in a field different from the field of their degree. Applicants with MA or PhD degrees are not eligible to participate.

The Embassy of Japan has begun offering scholarships to Indonesian students who wish to study at Japanese universities as research students for the academic year 2008 under the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) scholarship program. Any grantee who desires to enroll in a regular graduate course (a masterâ€™s course, a doctoral course or a professional graduate course) after studying as a research student or to move on from a masterâ€™s course or a professional graduate course to a doctoral course must pass an entrance examination given by the university concerned.

Applicants must have the following qualifications (among others) :
1. Applicants must have been born on or after April 2, 1973.
2. Applicants must have received from their university a GPA of 3.0 or higher or must have achieved a total score of 260 or higher in 2 subjects (except the subject of â€œJapaneseâ€) in the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU).
3. a minimum TOEFL score of 550 or equivalent or The Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level 2 or higher

Application forms are available free of charge at the Embassy of Japan (Education Section: 8:30-12:00, 14:00-15:30), the Consulates General of Japan in Surabaya, Medan and Makassar and are also available on the Embassy of Japan website. Panasonic Scholarship

Panasonic Scholarship kembali memberikan kesempatan kepada putra-putri terbaik untuk mengenyam program pascasarjana periode tahun 2008 di Jepang. Program yang dilaksanakan secara konsisten sejak 1999 ini hingga kini telah memberikan beasiswa kepada 29 putra-putri terbaik . Hal tersebut merupakan bagian dari aktivitas Panasonic di Indonesia yang telah berkomitmen melakukan aktivitas kepedulian sosial (CSR).

Ketiga mahasiswa itu adalah Febiana Hanani (ITB) yang melanjutkan ke Teknik Informasi Klinis Universitas Tokyo, Maria Cheng (Unika Atma Jaya) belajar ke Bioteknologi Universitas Osaka dan Titis Wijayanto (UGM) ke Ergonomi Universitas Kyusu.Ketiganya berhasil menyisihkan 1.552 sarjana pelamar dari seluruh Indonesia.

Dari ke 29 mahasiswa yang diberikan beasiswa, 22 di antaranya telah lulus. Tiga peserta di antaranya kembali ke dan menjadi pengajar, tiga orang bekerja di sektor swasta, 10 orang melanjutkan ke program doktoral. Sisanya tidak pulang dan bekerja di Jepang.

Panasonic Scholarship diluncurkan oleh Matsushita Electric Industrial co.ltc.,Japan (MEI) pada 1998. Program itu bertujuan memberi kesempatan kepada para pelajar Asia seperti dari Tiongkok, Indonesia, Malaysia, Filipina, Taiwan, Thailand, dan Vietnam, untuk mengambil program pascasarjana. Selain itu, program ini juga ditujukan untuk mempererat hubungan an tara negara-negara Asia dengan Jepang.

National oil corporation Petronas is the most valuable Malaysian brand at RM7.51 billion, according to Brand Finance Plc, the London-based independent valuation firm.

"Petronas is the most valuable Malaysian brand and is worth RM7.51 billion out of the total brand value of Malaysia 's top 50 brands, which is RM60.19 billion," the firm said when releasing the first index of Malaysia 's top 50 brands report.

AirAsia, Astro , Malaysia Airlines, Petronas, Telekom Malaysia (TM) and Maybank were the only Malaysian brands to achieve an "AAA" brand rating, Brand Finance said in a statement issued from London .

"The top 10 Malaysian brands command more than 60 percent of the overall top 50 brand value and overall the brands predominantly come from the financial services and agricultural sectors," it said.

Based on the Brand Finance Global Intangible Study, about 40 percent of Malaysia 's market value is derived from intangible assets, compared to the United States at 70 percent.

Overall, the total brand value of the top 50 brands in Malaysia as a percentage of the total enterprise value averaged at only four percent.

"This could partly be due to the fact that most of the companies in Malaysia are heavily weighted on mining and industries, agriculture and infrastructure sectors," Brand Finance said.

However, Malaysian brands such as Petronas, MayBank and TM are gaining global recognition, the firm said.

"Many of these Malaysian companies will adopt a new mindset as they compete globally and are increasingly accountable to their shareholders," it said.

Lucy Gwee, managing director of Brand Finance Singapore , said some leading Malaysian brands were already setting their footprints globally.

"The immediate noticeable change is in the mindset of management," Gwee said.

"Malaysian companies need to increasingly focus on using their intangible assets such as brands to increase shareholder value," she said.

Netherlands Fellowship Programme
The Netherlands Fellowship Programme is intended to deepen and broaden the knowledge and professional skills of mid-career professionals to enable them to make a better contribution to the development of their organizations and their countries.

Admission requirements MSc programme
The official admission requirements for the UNESCO-IHE MSc programmes are:

A bachelors degree in a field related to the programme the applicant would like to join (for requirements specific to this specialization, please refer to the participant’s profile section).
In principle, candidates should have a minimum of three years of practical or research experience since graduation. All applications are, however, considered on their individual merits.
English language requirements: UNESCO-IHE does not require a language certificate from native English speakers of the following countries: Australia, Botswana, Canada, Cameroon (English-speaking region), Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, India, Ireland, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Namibia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Philippines, Rwanda (English-speaking region), South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Uganda, UK, USA, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
All other candidates must provide a certificate of proficiency in English from either the Educational Testing Service (TOEFL) or the British Council (IELTS). The IELTS score must be 6.0 overall on the academic test.

UNESCO-IHE reserves the right to reject other certificates of proficiency in English that cannot be readily established as equivalent to the IELTS or TOEFL certificates.

Important note

UNESCO-IHE may assess applications before receiving the results of an English test. If accepted, applicants will receive a conditional letter of admission, which may be used to apply for a fellowship. Once the test results are received, if they are sufficient, applicants will be sent a formal (unconditional) letter of admission. However, UNESCO-IHE must receive satisfactory test scores before applicants may start a programme.

Admission requirements PhD programme
The main requirement for a PhD study at UNESCO-IHE is that candidates should hold an UNESCO-IHE MSc degree with high qualification. New College is one of the largest Oxford colleges, with some 400 undergraduates and nearly 200 graduates. It is, like all Oxford colleges, an autonomous, self-governing institution.

The governing body consists of the Warden (the head of the College) and Fellows, with both undergraduate and graduate students represented. Most Fellows of the College are both College Tutors and University Lecturers in the subjects which are taught here. Welcome to the Singapore Scholarship for ASEAN Countries under the Singapore Cooperation Programme.

What is Offered

The Singapore Scholarship is tenable for the minimum period required to obtain the respective degrees at Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore or Singapore Management University. It covers full tuition fees and a living allowance of S$4,300 (covering meals, transport, textbooks and course materials during schoool semester) per academic year. In addition, a separate full accommodation allowance based on the room rates at each university or designated hostel (for SMU which does not have on-campus accommodation) will be provided during school semester.
One return economy class air ticket is provided for the Scholar’s passage from his/her home country to Singapore for the duration of studies determined by the Singapore Government. No additional assistance will be provided for other travel expenses.
A recipient of the Scholarship may not concurrently hold any other Scholarship, Fellowship, Grant or Award without the prior approval of the Singapore Government.
There is no bond imposed on the Scholarship by the Singapore Government. The Scholars are expected to return home to contribute to the development of their countries upon graduation.
The Singapore Government reserves the right to terminate the Scholarship if the Scholar’s academic progress is unsatisfactory or his conduct is in violation of the university’s rules and regulations.

Three types of awards are offered under the ASEAN Scholarships for Malaysia. Secondary One Scholarships The ASEAN Secondary One Scholarships is tenable for 6 years leading to the award of the Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education 'Advanced' (GCE 'A') Level (or equivalent) certificate. The Scholarship is for studies in selected Singapore schools from Secondary One to Pre-University Two and is renewed annually, subject to the satisfactory performance of the scholar.
									Secondary Three Scholarships The ASEAN Secondary Three Scholarships is tenable for 4 years leading to the award of the Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education 'Advanced' (GCE 'A') Level (or equivalent) certificate. The Scholarship is for studies in selected Singapore schools from Secondary Three to Pre-University Two and is renewed annually, subject to the satisfactory performance of the scholar.
									Pre-University One Scholarships The ASEAN Pre-University One Scholarships is tenable for 2 years leading to the award of the Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education 'Advanced' (GCE 'A') Level (or equivalent) certificate. Students who perform well in the GCE 'A' Level (or equivalent) Examination may apply for the ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarships offered by the National University of Singapore or the Nanyang Technological University. The Scholarship is for 2 years of Pre-University studies in selected Singapore Junior Colleges and is renewed annually, subject to the satisfactory performance of the scholar.

1. PTPTN Loans

The PTPTN loan (National Educational Loan) is general study loan provided for by the Malaysian government to help students who wish to study their tertiary education in an government approved institution within Malaysia. SAE Institute Malaysia is one such institute. The PTPTN loan amount restriction for diploma programs only allows students to claim a total of RM5,000 per year of study. The good thing about the PTPTN loan is that students will only be asked to repay the loan to PTPTN after completing the program of study.

* This loans is strictly handled by SAE Institute, Malaysia as it requires the school to directly liaise with the PTPTN body.

2. Bank Rakyat Loan (Al-Falah)

This is a bank loan that allows you to finance your studies for educational expenditure such as tuition fess, personal expenses, reference books and other materials you need for your studies in SAE Malaysia.

3. MIED Loan (Maju Institute of Education Development)

Most scholarships cover a part of a student's education and living expenses; only a few cover all the expenses. Therefore, students should check the cost of study in Japan carefully and plan their funding, without relying on a scholarship. A lifestyle survey of privately financed international students conducted by JASSO in 2005 shows that approximately 45% of privately financed international students are on scholarships, receiving an average stipend of ¥53,000 per month. According to the Association for the Promotion of Japanese Language Education, only 16.4% of Japanese language institute students are on scholarships, receiving an average stipend of ¥48,062 per month (survey conducted in 2005).

Some scholarships for international students in Japan can be applied for in the student's home country before the student enters Japan, but most scholarships must be applied for in Japan after the student's arrival. Most scholarships are for students at university level or above and researchers. There are few scholarships for students at specialized training colleges or for students studying at Japanese-language institutes.

Shell Scholarship for Malaysian

Shell - one of the largest petroleum companies in Malaysia; in fact, one of the pioneers of Malaysia’s critical petroleum industry - offers two local scholarships for Malaysian students. This means that the scholarships are only tenable for full-time first-degree studies at recognised universities, public (IPTA) or private (IPTS), in Malaysia.

Both scholarships are valued at RM7,800 per year plus an annual home passage. More importantly, the scholarship is simultaneously a need-based and merit-based scholarship as the combined parents’ basic salary of applicants must not be more than RM3,000 per month.

The difference between the two scholarships lies in the place of stay of applicants. West Malaysians can only apply for the Shell Malaysia Downstream Scholarship Scheme while East Malaysians (Sabah and Sarawak residents) must apply for the Shell Malaysia Exploration and Production (SM-EP) Scholarship Scheme.

In both cases, the required academic qualifications are rather low - at a minimum of 2Bs in any of the core STPM subjects inclusive of General Paper (Pengajian Am) for STPM students, and a CGPA of 3.00 and above for matriculation, diploma or foundation students.

The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus High Achievers Scholarships

The High Achievers Scholarship is an automatic scholarship for Foundation and Undergraduate Programmes of Study. Students who meet the criteria below will automatically be awarded the scholarship, whereby they will only have to pay 75% of their tuition fees.
